U.S. District Court Judge Carl Nichols set trial to commence on Aug. 1 in the DOJ’s challenge to UnitedHealth Group’s proposed acquisition of Change Healthcare, according to an order entered today, Thursday, March 17.

The DOJ had been seeking a trial-ready date of Aug. 24, while the companies had asked Judge Nichols to schedule the trial to begin on or about June 20.

In his order, Judge Nichols scheduled the trial to last 12 days, concluding on Aug. 16. The DOJ will have seven days to present its case, including rebuttal, and the companies will have five days.

Judge Nichols also ordered the parties to meet and confer and file a joint status report on or before Wednesday, March 23, outlining a proposed scheduling order to govern further proceedings.
